SEO Basics That Still Work for Small Business Sites
No tricks, no keyword stuffing. Just the handful of things that reliably help local businesses get found.
Search engine optimisation for a small business is unglamorous and mostly consists of doing obvious things thoroughly. Start with one page per thing you sell, each with a title that names the service and the place you serve.
Your Google Business Profile does more for local visibility than almost anything on the website itself. Fill it out completely, keep hours accurate, add real photos, and answer reviews. Make sure the name, address and phone number match the site exactly.
On the site, write the description that appears in search results yourself. Around a hundred and fifty characters, written like a sentence you would say out loud, mentioning what you do and where. Generic descriptions get generic click rates.
Structure matters more than volume. One clear heading per page, sensible link text instead of "click here", alt text on images that describes the image, and a page that loads fast on a phone. Search engines reward pages that are easy to understand.
Advanced SEO — competitive keyword work, technical audits, content programmes — is a real discipline and priced separately for good reason. But the basics above are included in the Upgrade tier and get most businesses further than they expect.
